RIP Saguaro
Saguaro Espinosa left this world today, April 12, 2017. I wasn’t his favorite person in the world, so maybe Im not the best to write this eulogy, but no one was his favorite, except for Skeets. Pit-bulls are incredibly loyal, one-man dogs and Skeets was his man.
Saguaro lived a glorious life. Over his twelve years he enjoyed a healthy and absurd mix of adventure, leisure, action, gourmet quality meats and cheeses, restful luxurry and affection from many admirers. it’s suiting that his final day on earth was mundane. We spent the whole day together walking round the town of Durango, lazily strolling, patronizing businesses and dreaming of our futures. “The magical mundane,” as Skeets said in our wedding vows. Indeed. He was tired, so then he went to sleep.
It feels emptier without him. No one is here to greet us and I reflect on our time together, understanding that he probably kept us safe more than I realize. He saved my life once, did you know that? I almost froze to death in the harsh desert of west texas the snowy winter after my dad died, but Saguaro crawled into my sleeping bag and kept me alive through the night. I might not have been his favorite, but we looked after each other ever after that.
there’s never anything to say after someone you love dies. I know that better than some. I’ll just say this: He was a great dog; a great protector, companion and friend and we’ll miss him always.
To Saguaro: Thank you, and we’ll see you in the forever happy place.
